In this episode we are joined by Ashleigh Butterss, a yoga teacher and host of the recovery/sobriety podcast Behind The Smile.
Ashleigh shares her upbringing and growing up in an alcoholic home environment and how a sense of unease with that experience came full circle when she stumbled upon temporary relief from her unfortunate circumstances, at the bottom of the bottle at 12 years old.
She shares her experience with trauma bonding and entering an codependent addiction enabling relationship with her ex-husband, ultimately leading to a troubled end, and how seeing the emotional effect her behaviour had on those she cared about was enough to finally seek out the help she needed to get sober.
She shares her experience in rehab and the tools she learned and implements herself, entering a 12 step program and being a part of the AA fellowship, the importance of emotional sobriety and being able to sit in the discomfort of our thoughts, feelings and emotions and learn to grow from them.
It was a very insightful conversation with Ashleigh, we thank her for sharing her time and advice with us.
