And then there was silence…
Have you ever thought about that moment when you’re in a conversation with someone and it suddenly becomes completely silent..?
Yikes, ackward..!
A few years ago, those were my first thoughts too.
Afraid of the ackward silence, as soon as I caught a glimpse of it, I’d quickly try to make a (bad) joke (that no one got) in an attempt to escape it.
Or the opposite: I’d be waiting -eagerly - for a silence to show up so I could finally step in and add something to the conversation but the silence never came and then the moment passed.
How can something so small we don’t even think of it as a thing create such a mix of emotions?
This week’s podcast episode is about “the silence”.
Silence in a conversation can do very different things for the natural communication style of introverts and extroverts.
Although seemingly unassuming, this “small” thing - in my opinion - is at the heart of the biggest misunderstanding between introverts and extroverts.
