WELCOME BACK TO THE SIXTH EPISODE OF THE PROGRESSIVE MINDSET PODCAST WHERE NATALIE PRESENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF FOCUSSING ON YOUR STRENGTHS AND EXPLAINS HOW SHE USES DISC PERSONALITY TESTING WITH CLIENTS;

"Natural feedback accentuates weaknesses; performance reviews focussing on opportunities to improve and multiple studies showing people pay attention to negative information. It is not surprising that upon asking someone to recall an emotional event, people remember four negative memories for every positive one.

So what is DISC?

It is a non judgemental tool by Psychologist Dr William Marston used for the discussion of people's behavioural differences by participating in a series of questions that produce a detailed report to understand your personality and behaviour and understand how you also relate with others of different styles in the range of normal behaviour.

Who wouldn't want to increase self knowledge of themselves; how you respond to conflict, what causes you stress and how best to solve problems. I have seen myself the difference this has made in how I approach the relationships in my life from clients, my best friends, my niece, mum and dad whilst accelerating the growth in my self awareness.

A brief style by style analysis;

The report generated will share your style. The behaviour with the highest score us your most dominant style and the lowest is your least dominant style.

D stands for Dominant and D’s are people who like to take action. Their strengths are getting results, being outgoing and task focussed with a decision making style of being fast and decisive. Their biggest fear is being taken advantage of and failure of loss. They are motivated by challenge, power and authority.

I stands for influencing which is people with strengths in being positive, enthusiastic and optimistic - they like to interact, persuade others, are outgoing and people orientated with a decision making style of preferring to have options. Their biggest fear is rejection and are motivated by recognition, praise and popularity.

S stands for steady and people who like to maintain the status quo - their strengths are patience and being people orientated. Their biggest fear is confrontation, change and a loss of security whilst they are motivated by harmony, adjusting to change and security.

C stands for compliant and are people with strengths in being into the detail, standards and following rules. They are people and task orientated. Their biggest fear is being criticised without validation and are motivated by ways of working, precision and the time to analysis data.

Having an awareness of your strengths doesn't necessarily mean a vast improvement in performance, however it certainly does allow you to focus on the appropriate steps in constructing a plan to build on them. The value of knowing who you are is that you can consciously and confidently address and modify your approach when necessary."
