We all know change can be difficult, but why? When we come to the conclusion that a shift needs to be made, we start doing things out of the norm. We might change routines, habits, mindsets, the people we hang around, or the environment we’re in. This is all unfamiliar territory, and as we learned in past episodes, our id doesn’t like that. It’s going to battle you all the way and tell you that even your current negative emotions are familiar and therefore safer than the unknown.
So, no, our ego is not in our way, our id is. The id is the primitive side of the mind that seeks to protect our ego at all costs. Unfortunately, being so primitive, it can’t understand that change can be good. It only recognizes that discomfort is bad, and of course, change is uncomfortable. Your ego wants to evolve, but we have to override the id to make that happen.
