Skeptik decided to take us all on a feel trip this week with our first dive into the world of animated films, Grave of the Fireflies. Directed by Isao Takahata in 1988, this is a harrowing Studio Ghibli film about the horrors of war. Told through the perspectives of a child, Setsuko, and her older brother, Seita, we follow the pair as they struggle to survive a war-torn Japan during WWII and maintain a semblance of happiness within the brief pockets of peace they experience. Fair warning, this is a really heavy episode, but that doesn't mean we can't recommend watching it before listening. It's a very important film that just so happens to be one of the darkest movies we've ever discussed on this show.
TW: violence against children, children in distress, war, shitty relatives
