- The hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" -- fact checking what I shared in the episode. The hymnist, Horatio Spafford, experienced the death of his 4-year-old son in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The fire also ruined him financially. Shortly afterwards, his 4 daughters died in a shipwreck. His wife survived. Spafford traveled by ship to meet his grieving wife, and wrote the lyrics to "It Is Well With My Soul" as his ship passed the area where his daughters died.
