This is our Time with God series where we take less than 10 minutes a day to meditate on God's Word in order to center our lives on God for the day. Today we meditate on how to reconcile that Isaiah says that the coming Messiah will be named Emmanuel while God tells Joseph to name his son Jesus. We see that Emmanuel is to make it clear that Jesus is the God of Israel in the flesh which in the context of Isaiah was the focus. While Jesus which means "God saves" better outlines the entire story and hope of the Hebrew Bible. Just how God has names that are not necessarily "His name" they characterize His character. This is what Emmanuel is for Jesus. We turn the focus that Jesus is the hope for all humanity that there is genuine life to be had that overcomes Sin and Death.
