In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev addressed the problem of how to classify civilizations in case we came in contact with any interstellar intelligent life. Kardashev scale is an attempt to map the progress of a civilization on a universal scale with the parameters of technological capability, and how that maps our own progress as a species. This episode, we try to understand why this scale is the closest to an objective parameter we can come to when trying to understand extraterrestrial life.
