Amrita pritam is one of the most renowned punjabi writer who is also the author of this short story "Ek Hauka". Patriarchal notions have been driving our society since the ages. A woman usually finds herself dependent upon the various male identities which extends from being husband, father or son. Even in this story a childless female is in search of young girl whom she can marry with her husband and ultimately bore a child so that their family can be considered complete and valued.
Their search extends this notion of theirs and finally they find themselves struck in a situation where the newly married girl refuses to give them the baby and even declares her role to be more prominent in relation to the baby rather than the couple.
