The protagonist of the story is an old lady who is bedridden. Though she has a huge family around her including her married sons and grandchildren but she is being taken care by a full time maid. The bond between the family members and especially between the generations is getting weak as days pass, so as the health of the old lady.Her sudden demise, which should have saddened the family turned out to be opportunistic for the sons to get rid off the maid as she would be of no use as their old mother died. On the flip side, the maid is also sad but more saddened because she would be out of work soon. Thus, the whole setup turns out to crumbling as the times are changing...so are the values of being a family.
