Interview of Bob Spencer, a former manager of the Fairbanks North Star Borough animal shelter in the 1970's. We discuss the early days of the shelter and why he created indoor drop-off kennels. We also discuss the Borough's plans NOT to include drop-off kennels in their new animal shelter and why that's a bad idea.
With our very cold climate here in Fairbanks, it is humane to offer this service to the people who are surrendering their companion and small livestock animals. When domesticated animals are left outside in the winter without any shelter, they often freeze to death. Let's make sure that we include indoor drop-off kennels in the new shelter's construction plans!
