What a clutch finish by PJ Fleck and Minnesota Football. The catch by Daniel Jackson on 4th and 10, and the 47-yard field goal by Dragan Kesich to finish the game off sums up this entire matchup. The Minnesota Golden Gophers were the better-coached team, had the better culture, and had the defense and skill position players necessary to stay around just long enough to stage a comeback. By no means is this an impressive win. I was far too bullish on Minnesota, and foolish for thinking they would score 38 points on Nebraska. However, by having three fewer penalties and 3 fewer turnovers, PJ Fleck's squad was able to sneak past an improved Nebraska Football team. Minnesota was a mess offensively, but by winning in the fundamentals, having the superior defense and offensive line, and making correct calls in critical moments, the Gophers earned a win on the opening day of College Football's Week 1 slate. Nebraska, like Minnesota, is a mixed bag. The Cornhuskers' defense looked better than any blackshirt unit in recent memory, but Matt Rhule's squad had too many penalties and bad coaching decisions to come away with what should have been a win.
