I had friends tell me that this game was going to be more balanced and entertaining than the Washington vs. Oregon matchup. Those predictions, along with my own 35-33 prediction in favor of the Ducks, aged extremely poorly. Dan Lanning did not even have to take risks on 4th down to win, as Bo Nix, Bucky Irving, and Troy Franklin sliced and diced the Utes' defense. Nix went 24-31 for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, while Irving and Franklin had 1 score to their names. The Ducks' defense did not surrender a single touchdown and held Utah to under 100 rushing yards. The appropriate reaction to this beatdown is viewing Oregon Football as one of the best teams in the country. Oregon is scoring 45.5 points per game on offense (3rd nationally) and allowing only 15.6 points per game on defense (11th nationally). A win in Rice Eccles Stadium is hard to come by, but a dominant, 29-point victory was hard to see. Utah Football is still a great program and Kyle Whittingham is an elite head coach.
