Since ancient times, observant Israelites have read passages from the Torah (the law) and the prophets (haftarah) every week. The readings ensure the five books of Moses (Hebrew: Chumash; Greek: Pentateuch) are completed in a calendar year. You should know that the Torah is the foundation of all Scripture (Isaiah 8:20; Luke 24:44; John 5:45–46). From the first book of the Torah called Bereshith (Genesis), Parashah Vayera (and he appeared) is the third reading in any calendar year, for example, in the world year 5784 and Nazari year 1994. It contains and conveys the record of how Lot was rescued from the destruction by fire that fell on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because the error of their behaviors had become very heavy (Genesis 18:20–21). It is a record of what happens to useless men who have chosen to show their belief in doing and encouraging evil. Let’s dive in. This podcast is captioned.
