Description

We're now half-way through the rocky road that is the Alien franchise, as we sit down to review the third film. Once again following directly from the events of its predecessor, the story begins with Ripley crash landing on a prison planet, with her mates from Aliens being killed in the process. After being rescued, she and the other prisoners have to take on a Xenomorph running loose on a murder spree. That's pretty much all that happens until the final ten minutes, at least in the theatrical version. This was the directorial debut of the legendary friend of the show, David Fincher. But his original vision for the movie was so heavily tampered with by Twentieth Century Fox that an "Assembly Cut" was released a decade later, which more closely resembles the film Fincher wanted to make. So let's try and compare the two versions and discuss the bewildering creation of this picture.
