I tried to tackle this topic on Wednesday, and found myself so overcome with rage that I ran another episode instead. I've done some thinking on it, and while I'm no less outraged, I'm able to discuss the horrifying, damning coverage by The Atlantic of Bryan Singer's alleged decades of serial child sex abuse. You can read the piece here: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/03/bryan-singers-accusers-speak-out/580462/
Like Kevin Spacey, Singer is piling onto his disgrace by defending himself as the victim of a witch hunt that's all about his open homosexuality. As excuses go, that is especially despicable as it conflates the LGBTQ community with a decades-long pattern of child predation. GLAAD is certainly offended, not to mention horrified, and they've removed Bohemian Rhapsody from consideration for Outstanding Film their upcoming GLAAD Awards. It will be interesting to see whether Rhapsody - which fired Singer for his allegedly toxic behavior just 3 weeks before wrapping production - will face similar penalization from the Academy Awards, and whether the Golden Globes will rescind their awards for the film. This is unprecedented, as the entertainment industry once again being held accountable for protecting alleged predators. I love Bohemian Rhapsody, and I don't think the people who performed in it, or worked on it, to suffer for the sins of Bryan Singer - but, none of that really matters compared to the damage suffered by his alleged victims. Here's hoping for some sort of justice, some sort of healing, and above all, now that this is out in the open, there's no excuse for Singer to be allowed near children. However, he is still attached as director for the upcoming Red Sonja film, as of this recording. Here's hoping they pull the breaks on that production, pending an investigation.
