The weather outside is frightful, and my voice is shot! I'd love to do an entire show tonight sounding exactly like Scott Ferrall, but I don't think you'd enjoy it all that much. So instead, I'm chopping up soundbites from Daredevil Season 3 for a recap that I'll air as soon as my voice returns, which I expect will be tomorrow. In the meantime, here's my take on the trailer for Captain Marvel, first broadcast on September 19.
I'm hopeful, but nonplussed by this first look. There's plenty of time to work on production before the film is released, and Marvel has had plenty of less-than-perfect introductions to their biggest heroes before. So even if the movie is as bland as it looks, that's no reason to think that the Captain won't shine in her inevitable sequel, and in the Avengers and/or Guardians of the Galaxy franchises. But this trailer is pretty lame, and just wait until I tell you about what they're doing to poor Carol Danvers in the comics! We get it, she's from Boston, my god! And more misrepresentation of PTSD - it's a mess. There's no doubt that the film will be better than the comic mini-series "The Life of Captain Marvel."
