Description

Now that the Music Modernization Act has finally been enshrined into law by President Trump, I'm wondering - why was SiriusXM so firmly against this bill, which helps them every bit as much as it does the musical artists who make up so much of their programming? It's not as if they don't make out very well too, in the long run, so I can't help but wonder if satellite radio isn't looking for an escape hatch. Why else were they so focused on the short-term money, if they're not at least contemplating cutting and running? It's just speculation, but they may see the ubiquity of streaming, downloadable music and podcasts as a threat to their long-term survival. I certainly do, so maybe I'm just projecting, but it's the only reason I can see for their objection to the MMA, which will undoubtedly benefit them in the long rung - as long as they plan on sticking around long enough to reap the benefits.
