Yesterday was an especially crazy Independence Day here in the United States. No alien invasion, or - sigh - President Whitman, but there were some tanks and some stuff about air travel in the 18th century, which I did not know about. But hey, 1790, 1912, I don't sweat the small stuff!
More importantly, this has been an incredibly eventful few days in the worlds of comics and television, and the ever shrinking Venn diagram that links them.
First off, as discussed on Tuesday's episode of the MSP, The Walking Dead published their final issue on Wednesday. I have some spoiler-free thoughts on that, and the future of the franchise.
Meanwhile, Mad Magazine is on life support - barely. The news of the last few days is basically a death sentence for this amazing magazine, a cultural gem that taught so many of us about comedy and art. I can't tell you how much Mad meant to me, and so many of my peers and heroes.
Finally, Neil Gaiman's Sandman - launched at the now-defunct Vertigo, and one of the most important, and beloved, comics in history - is going to be a streaming service! The show has major names attached as writers and potential showrunners, and a huge budget - so why is it going to Netflix? Does WarnerMedia's lack of confidence in DC Universe extend to their own upcoming streaming platform? It certainly seems that way to this podcaster.
