Not long ago on this podcast (on the episode titled ‘Let Your Freak Flag Fly’) I mentioned several DC Comics cancellations that I found unfortunate. The axing of upcoming Vertigo series Second Coming was perhaps the most understandable, however unfortunate. Completely perplexing was the cancellation of the Absolute Swamp Thing Volume 1 trade hardcover, which would have collected some of the most-loved modern comics by titans like Alan Moore, Stephen Bissette, John Totleben, and Rick Veitch.
I’m happy to report that Second Coming is getting a - well, a second coming, as it’s been picked up by Ahoy Comics, and DC came to their senses and re-scheduled Absolute Swamp Thing, which you can pre-order from Amazon (affiliate link): https://amzn.to/2TxoGok
Meanwhile, truth continues to be stranger than fiction, as the FBI has arrested actress Felicity Huffman and has a warrant out for Lori Loughlin. The actresses are just 2 of the dozens nabbed by the FBI in a massive operation uncovering a ring of criminals using money and bribery to get their children admitted into Ivy League colleges. This looks like a huge deal, one that will cast a pall over academia at a time when the country really needs to embrace and trust its institutions like the press, and educational system. However, it is also a nice reminder that, while we may not hear about their daily activities, the feds are working behind the scenes to flesh out massive criminal conspiracies and shut them down, no matter how wealthy or famous. I think we all needed to be reminded of that.
