Apple had many announcements at this year’s WWDC, including upgrades to iOS and MacOS, and a new OS for iPads called iPad OS. I know, I have no idea where they get these amazing names from either! Then again, my podcast is just called The Matt Sager Podcast, so maybe I’m not really in a position to be calling out anyone on rather on-the-nose product names.

Apple’s other announcements included the launch of a beautiful cheese grater that costs several thousand dollars, and also edits video and audio like nobody’s business. The new Mac Pro, which really does look an awful lot like a cheese grater but I’d really advise against using it for that purpose.

Most shockingly, at least at first, is the announcement that iTunes will be discontinued. It’s already been done on iPhones and iPads, but the new MacOS, Catalina, will eschew the bulky, unwieldy old iTunes in favor of separate apps for music, TV and of course, podcasts!

Bleeding Cool is reporting that there may be another cancellation looming, which like iTunes may at first feel like the end of an era, but really may just be getting rid of some features which were no longer of much benefit to the corporation or its customers. That’s right, Vertigo may shut down, and honestly, looking at their current lineup, I have no problem with that. Then again, I have a lot of personal and professional respect for ousted editors Karen Berger and Shelly Bond, so I may have a bid of a grudge. I don’t think so, though. It’s been quite a while since I’ve enjoyed a Vertigo book, and Young Animal has already stepped in to do much of what Vertigo was originally designed for.
