Hey y’all! This week I talk about colorism & how privilege is informed by proximity to whiteness. Of course I’m still me, so the anecdote I use to introduce this conversation is the treatment of RHOP’s Candiace Dillard-Bassett. You don’t have to be a housewives fan to be privy to this conversation, though, as I just used the gaslighting of Candiace as an example of blatant colorism. As a lightskin/mixed black person, I feel a certain responsibility to stand up for other black folks (especially black women) whose voices are often drowned out by the noise. With this being said: I’d like to acknowledge that I am aware I'm not an ideal leader for a conversation like this and welcome any of you to reach out to me if there’s something you feel I missed or misrepresented.
