The sheep discuss the central theme of extending mercy along with self righteousness, eating gristle, the physical tangibility of confession and the Jason of 13 years ago.  Check out the readings HERE to help with context of the conversation.

“Speedo and all.”  2:46- What does it mean to worship a molten calf in 2022?

4:43- What were they really doing when worshipping the calf? “Let’s go back to what we know.”

5:57- What do we worship now in place of God? “Where you are spending your time and money, may be where your worship is.”

6:45- The false idea in this post Christian world that we are smarter than people in the past.  “We are made for worship. When we don’t worship rightly, the creator of the universe, we worship something [in His place].”

7:23- Divisiveness and tribalism has become its own strange form of worship.

9:58- Try to understand both sides of an argument honestly.

11:45- We revert back to old habits because we are under the illusion it is something we can control.

24:13- Gospel of Luke (one lost sheep, one lost coin, parable of the lost son) intro.

25:53- When Chris was a priest, did he get a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking after preaching about this parable?

26:00- People identify with different characters in the parable of the lost son.

26:47- The balance of God’s mercy and justice.  “Damn Bro, he’s right, I’m caught.”

27:29- Seeing God’s merciful love from the perspective of being a dad.

30:47- Recognizing when your kids need your mercy not justice.

31:51- Self righteous attitudes.

33:05- Celebrating when people repent.  “Who the hell are you to try to hold someone so accountable to justice, that you are not able to extend them mercy?”

34:00- Feeling holiness after extending mercy vs extending justice, vengeance, or wrath.

34:47- The importance of turning back to God when your life is out of control.

35:42- Putting God in the center of your life is necessary because it is a part of our design.

36:19- Fatted calf is tasty!

37:15- Extending mercy can result in deep friendship.
