Season 1, Episode 21

My guest is Cathy Anderson and what better a place to do a podcast than the Anderson family Cottage sitting on gold velvet rocking chairs with a view of Lake Bernard... As usual, the Ephemeros style starts with no structure and no script, just a fly by the seat of our pants agenda.

Have you ever wondered about the creative process – wondered how creative minds come up with unique and original ideas and creations? Have you ever been amazed at how artists can create beauty out of thin air, that we can experience like an alchemical magic? Our chat on this calm night by the lake reveals how the key element of creativity – passion – can rise and fall but never disappear...

Cathy Anderson is an Art Director by trade and an artist by nature. Yet she processes the world as a creative scientist through her innate vertical and lateral thinking. When she’s not working or creating beauty in a variety of media, she’s indulging in non-fiction. Topics that range from ancient history, indigenous study, archeology, geology, biology, genetics, and her current favourite, neuroscience. About 10 years ago, her interests in design, colour, science, geology, and light culminated in the discovery of lampwork - a way to create tiny wearable works of art by melting, forming, and layering glass using ancient techniques. Gazing upon and through her glass creations is more than seeing rich colour and light; more than feeling a connection to the natural elements of the Murano glass rods that she uses; more than an encapsulation of her passions; it’s been described as an alchemical experience - a recognition of the deepest nature of our being, even for just a moment.
