Casualty, the world's longest-running primetime medical drama, debuted on 6 September 1986, set in Holby City Hospital's A&E department, a fictional version of Bristol. Created by Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin, it drew from the everyday heroics of NHS staff, tackling issues like health rationing and HIV/AIDS. The show introduced regular night shift characters, including Charlie Fairhead, Megan Roach, and Lisa 'Duffy' Duffin. Its success led to the creation of Holby City in 1999. Brock and Unwin co-wrote the first episode , 'Gas,' whilst Unwin contributed to key episodes marking the show's 30th anniversary.
