When people hear the word “trauma” they often think physical trauma like getting hit in the head in a car crash.  But we can also experience emotional trauma from childhood experiences, relationships, and work related stress.l and it can impact how we are formed as Christians, how we love others, God, and ourselves.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Trauma “Results from an event, series of events or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being.

Traumatic events can be an abusive relationship, a work related incident, experiencing a natural disaster, being in a war.  This can take place over time or in a single moment.
