Council Member Betsy Wilkerson has deep roots in Spokane, where she's not only a long-time small business owner but also a passionate community servant. Raised in District 2, she proudly represents a piece of Spokane's history as the second African American woman to serve on the City Council. Betsy is a mother of two and an active grandmother to three, with a mother who co-founded the Mt. Zion Holiness Church.
Betsy's dedication is clear: she's committed to ensuring every Spokane resident has the tools to succeed, fostering a City of Promise that welcomes people from all walks of life. She understands that community strength lies in supporting public services, institutions, and local businesses, and she partners with neighborhood councils and community associations to keep Spokane vibrant and economically robust.
With a background in the volunteer and non-profit sector, Council Member Wilkerson has chaired the board of the Carl Maxey Center and led successful capital campaigns to benefit the historic East Central Neighborhood, named after a local civil rights icon. She's actively involved in a family business supporting individuals with disabilities and serves on various non-profit boards, making impactful grants for community needs, education, and capital projects.
