Message: Sermon teaches the perspective of children and parents according to scripture, listing commands placed on us as believers. The Old Testament points to times when the people were living their own truth, much like today. Two families are contrasted to compare two different styles of parenting and two different ways people chose to honor God. One style honors God above kids and the other honors the kids will, fearing to lose honor with them, but dishonoring God. Parenting when under the authority of God is potent, teaching how to respond to His call by listening repentance and baptism. If you've messed up parenting, you're not done, abide in the gospel. The gospel says you will always be saved by God and brought into a new life from a terribly messed up situation. The sermon's challenge is to stand up and dedicate your parenting from this day forward to honoring God. Fight with intensity against the tendency to honor your kids above God.
Scripture: Proverbs 22: 6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he grows older he will not abandon it." NASB
