Hello listeners! Welcome to the Sweet mother podcast- a podcast that exists to tell the stories of powerful women, as told by the daughters they left behind. I’m your host, Sohkor Solanke, and in this episode, we'll honor the life of Ruby Mae Brooks, a Creole woman born in Louisiana in 1928. She married Anthony Matthews, and together they had six children. Sadly, she died of cancer in her late 40's. My guest today is the youngest of her six children. She joins us to honor the life, legacy, and rich Creole heritage of the mother she lost when she was just 20 years old, and to explain how her mother's deathbed plea motivated her to advance from high-school dropout to four-time college graduate, with degrees from Xavier Uni, University of Maryland, Coppin State University, and Uni of Tampa. She is also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Please welcome to the podcast, Mrs. Regina Matthews.
