Hey everybody! This is Pamela Poisson – P-O-I-double S-O-N – on the LOVE MIC! Today’s topic is: “Talking In Black And White.” Recently, I was visiting a high school and hanging out in a teacher’s classroom working on a video project. A few students came in and started talking with the teacher about one of the people working with them on a group assignment. They complained that a student wasn’t pulling her own weight and was creating more work for everyone else. The teacher patiently listened to their complaints and quietly shook his head, affirming his attention. They went on and on and on. When they finished, he asked a very simple question. “Did you speak with her about this?” he said. The students looked at one another and then at him and answered, “Well, we texted her.” And with that, this wonderful teacher made a statement that hit me to the core! He said, “How can you really get anything accomplished when you are only talking in black and white?” My brain hit the pause button and I immediately started thinking about that statement - “talking in black and white”. This was such an eye opener for me!
