Welcome friends! This week is the first part of the novella Candide, written by the philosopher Voltaire in 1759. This short satirical piece is full of sarcasm and interesting commentary about the world.
** Because of the time in which this was written, there are several terms and phrases used to describe humans from different walks of life that we no longer use or accept because they are demeaning and inhumane. I have opted to leave them in this telling but also do not want to leave it unaddressed. We cannot change how things were, but we can acknowledge them, and choose to learn and grow together. The language that we use and the way we talk to and about other humans matters deeply. Let's be conscious of how we treat one another and make the world a better place for all of us, together. **
