Description

Welcome friends! This week we continue reading the novella Candide written by the philosopher Voltaire in 1759. This short satirical piece is full of sarcasm and interesting commentary about the world.

**Because of the time in which this was written, there are several terms and phrases used to describe humans from different walks of life that we no longer use or accept because they are demeaning and inhumane. I have chosen to leave them in this telling to stay true to the text, but also do not want to leave that unaddressed. We cannot change how things were. But what we can do is acknowledge them, and learn and grow together. The language that we use and the way we talk to and about other humans matters deeply. Let`s be conscious of how we treat one another and make the world a better place for all of us, together.**
