After a humiliating loss against Brentford, Manchester United legend, Gary Neville accused Glazers of not putting in the money to buy quality players. But is he right? According to research by the Football Observatory, Manchester United tops the list of net transfer spending over the last ten years. Since 2012, the Red Devils have splashed over €1.5 Billion in buying players while cashed in €470 Million from offloading its on-field assets. Over the last decade, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid enjoyed a lot of success with significantly less Net Transfer Spend. In United’s case, "It's a real achievement to spend a billion pounds and be this bad", as Neville commented. Money has obviously been spent but never spent wisely. Famous players were bought regardless of their suitability to the manager’s playing style. What do you think? Has the club been too commercial in their approach? Comment below.
