Denmark will take the field wearing monochrome kits at the FIFA World Cup 2022. The subdued logos on the jerseys represent the nation's protest against human rights concerns in the host country. The Danish kit manufacturer, Hummel, stated that it doesn’t wish to be visible in the tournament, which has cost thousands of lives. Qatar has been heavily criticised for its human rights record, which includes strict anti-LGBT laws and mistreatment of migrant workers. 30,000 foreign labourers, employed to build seven new stadiums, were forced to live under poor living conditions with months of unpaid wages. In contrast to the government’s claims of 37 construction site deaths, the Guardian reported more than 6,500 migrant workers have died since Qatar won the World Cup bid in 2010. The tournament has been the subject of numerous controversies since the beginning. There have also been allegations of bribery in securing the hosting rights of the first-ever winter World Cup, which has disturbed the regular football season across the globe.
