Description

From air-conditioned stadiums to offside detection technology, the FIFA World Cup 2022 has certainly given us a sneak peek into the future of football with several cutting-edge innovations. One of them is the official World Cup ball itself. The Adidas AI Rihla contains an inertial measurement unit sensor inside it. The IMU sensor collects important data like ball speed and the exact time of impact, which also supports 12 tracking cameras mounted on the stadium's roof for AI-powered semi-automated offside technology. For the first time ever, players can access their individual player-performance data and analyse it after every match through the FIFA Player App. Another app specially created for the stadium audience offers AR analytics and live insights. FIFA has also employed assistive technologies for visually impaired fans. The Multicam feature has taken the football broadcast to a whole new level. Online fans can now switch between multiple camera angles while watching live matches on their smartphones.
