While all major European football clubs are launching their new kits before the start of the new season, one football club is kickstarting a new tradition. Premier League club, Brentford will continue to wear their last season’s Umbro home stripes this season as well. The decision will not only make football more affordable for the Bees supporters but it will also positively contribute toward environmental sustainability. According to Brentford’s CEO Jon Varney, by doing so, the club will be able to maintain higher levels of stock and improve both availability and delivery times. Interestingly, the textile industry is responsible for 2% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. Global sportswear giant, Nike is also considering introducing two-season kits for teams starting with PSG from next season onwards. Liverpool, Inter Milano and Barcelona will follow soon after. Whether clubs will prefer an environment-conscious decision that makes football more affordable for their fans over profits only time will tell.
