Named after Qatar's dialing code, Stadium 974 is as unique as its name. The stadium is made out of 974 shipping containers, which were used to bring construction items to the site. Stadium 974 is the world’s first demountable stadium, which means that the entire stadium can be deconstructed and transported to underdeveloped countries and the next World Cup venue after the World Cup in Qatar concludes. The modern engineering marvel solves a major problem of sports facilities turning into white elephants after mega sports events like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics have ended. The 40,000-seater sporting venue in Doha uses recycled steel and 40% less water than usual. Unlike other stadiums, it will need no artificial air conditioning during the tournament thanks to its coastal location and well-ventilated design. Whether the stadium is a true mark of cost-effectiveness, legacy, and sustainability or just a greenwashing gimmick, only time will tell.
