I was delighted to bring Wincanton Town Football Club's manager, Chris Wise on to the Podcast. Someone who I have watched from afar during my local Football management and playing career.
Chris would class himself as being football mad since a young age and played his early football for his school, Merriott, Larkspur and Barwick and Stoford. Chris excelled as a youth player and was selected to train at Millfield's school of excellence in football. Chris signed for Sherborne U18's and played there for 2 years before then playing in their reserve and first teams shortly after.
Chris then got a knee injury which was the starting point for him leaving the game for a lengthy period of time (10 years) this, he says makes him fully qualified to speak to lads who are potentially wasting their abilities now.
Chris got back into football in 2014 when himself and previous Grassroots Guy guest Andy Mitchell got invited to take on the Castle Cary managers positions jointly. Even though this job was a joint venture they complimented each other and implemented their own expectations of what levels of professionalism should be demonstrated at the Football club which was something they have since taken into the set up at Wincanton Town FC.
Chris is the longest serving manager in the western league he believes and has had various coaches, assistants and squad members since he took over. Chris has had various challenges in the role and speaks openly about it in the podcast. Chris offered great value to the Grassroots guy podcast and you can see why he is a successful and long term manager.
