In Botswana, more than 67% of women have experienced gender-based abuse in their lifetime. Botswana has the second-highest rape rates in the world, with 92.9 cases per 100 000 citizens.
The situation of women in Botswana was alarming even before the pandemic outbreak. Now, because of recurrent lockdowns and restrictions, the country is facing an unprecedented increase in the number of reported instances of gender-based violence.
