With Halle Bailey recently being cast as Ariel in the live action version of The Little Mermaid, there has been a lot of backlash in response with people criticizing that she “doesn’t look like the cartoon”. But why is it that people have a problem with a Black woman being cast in a historically White role and why does it need to be discussed?
