Description

Gwyneth Paltrow is heralded as the queen of health and wellness - creator of Goop and self proclaimed founder of yoga in the western world, she has become an icon in the health and wellness world but not exclusively for good reasons. The health and wellness world seems less like a place to learn how to take care of yourself and more a space that’s completely whitewashed cultural practices of wellness and repackaged it in white paper (if you know what we mean). On this week’s episode, Nadine and Tarini discuss wellness rituals from different cultures that have been appropriated in the Western world. From turmeric lattes (yes, turmeric with an r, not tumeric) to sageing, Youtube vloggers have us believing they invented these practices themselves, and in the process, end up ruining these customs for the people to whom it truly belongs. Listen to this week’s episode to learn more about the appropriation of wellness rituals, it’s harmful impact of it on our communities, and what you can do to become more mindful that your self care rituals take care of the world around you, too.
