James Gunn will write a new Superman movie focusing on the hero’s younger years, with a new actor playing the role of Superman instead of Henry Cavill.

In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”
The news may be surprising to fans who expected Cavill to return as the hero, but insiders say that Cavill’s recent Instagram announcement was approved by Warner Bros brass before Gunn and Safran were hired, leading to a change in plans.
