Description

Evan Barrett is a Red Lodge native who came to Butte in 1979 because his boss, Sen. John Melcher, made him. Several years later, he decided to stay, even though Sen. Melcher wanted him to leave.

For more than half a century, Barrett has been a man behind so many great political leaders and policy in Butte and Montana. In addition to Melcher, he worked for U.S. Congressman Pat Williams, Gov. Brian Schweitzer and Don Peoples.

For 18 years, he headed up economic development in Butte. He served a three-year stint as executive director of the Montana Democratic Party, and he was as a member of the Democratic National Committee for 12 years.

Lately, he has cemented his status as a Butte guy by fighting to make sure that Butte gets the Superfund cleanup that it deserves.
