Before he was known as "Coach," Greg Salo was an outstanding football player. He was a three-time All-State linebacker for Butte High, helping lead the Bulldogs to State titles in 1967 and 1968.
In 1969, Salo was named an All-American, and he signed to play football at UCLA. After a year with the Bruins, he transferred to the University of Montana, where he played linebacker for the Grizzlies.
