Occasionally, Facebook turns out to be a very good thing.
That is the certainly case with today’s guest. Facebook is how I found Mike Beckworth. Recently, I saw a post by “M.C. Beckworth” on the Butte 411 page. It was a composite photo. It showed the Badger Mine headframe looking from the south to north, and Mike replaced the blue sky with a beautiful sunset with birds flying by.
When I saw some people complaining that the photo wasn’t “real” because the sunset was in the north, I chimed in with a little snark of my own. That led me to look at more of Mike’s work and I eventually sent him a friend request before inviting him to be a guest on the ButteCast.
I searched and searched and could not find much information on Mike before I met him at the Metals Sports Bar & Grill yesterday. So, I went in figuring we would spend the entire time talking about his photography.
I was fine with that because his work is incredible. He has some great photos of rivers, lakes, mountains, flowers and the stars. There was so much to ask him about. You can check out links to see Mike’s work on Facebook or on his website.
When I met Mike and heard his golden radio voice, I realized that I already knew him. Well, kind of. Mike Beckworth used to be “Mike in the Morning” on KOPR 94 radio in Butte. I spent countless hours listening to Mike every morning.
On the radio, Mike was a pro. He could have worked anywhere, but he decided to settle in his hometown at the end of his career. His smooth voice eased so many of us into our days.
I also found out in this conversation that Mike is a fellow Blaine Elementary kid. He was a few years ahead of me at the Walkerville school, but once a Mustang, always a Mustang.
We had a fun conversation. Listen in as Mike talks about getting into photography, his techniques and to what makes him so good at taking landscape photos. Listen in to hear his passion.
Also, listen as he talks about his years in radio and how the business changed over the years. Listen in to hear that great radio voice.
