As practices begin for the high school fall sports season, I am reminded of the night Brian Toone returned to the Mining City.
The 1991 Butte High Bulldog state champion and 1995 Montana Grizzly national champion was so intense while watching the game on the sideline that I thought he might run out and make a tackle. He was not there to reminisce with his teammates. He was there to watch the Bulldogs win the 2012 Class AA State championship game.
Even when you win it all, you want to go back and do it again. If you leave the field with regret, that feeling will haunt you. If I could say one thing to players entering their senior year, it would be to look at the passion Brian Toone watching the Bulldogs 21 years after he last put on the uniform. This will be your last season to see your hometown team in action and be able to do something about it.
