Description

John Navarro Jr. is the only person in Gibraltar to have Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN), a rare, chronic neurological disorder that affects the peripheral nerves, leading to progressive muscle weakness and loss of function, usually in the hands and arms. Unlike other neuropathies, MMN is purely motor, meaning it does not cause sensory loss. It is often misdiagnosed as ALS due to its similar symptoms but is treatable with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), which can help manage the condition and slow progression. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for maintaining mobility and quality of life. MMN is a very rare condition roughly affecting 1 in 200,000 people or 5 in every 1 million people.

Today he’ll share his story.
