On this date, November 14, Emperor Justinian I died in AD 565. He was a significant Christian leader, implementing the establishment of the Justinian Code, and built many Christian churches, including Hagia Sophia, St Catherine's Monastery in Mt Sinai, and the church of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy, where he and his wife, Theodora, are depicted carrying the communion elements during the Offertory. As we ponder these Christian leaders, we also can pray for our government and the leaders of our nation, especially as a new administration is being formed.
