In the scripture, Abraham was referred to as Father of Faith (Galatians 3:7), however, an important lesson to learn from Abraham is about his life and ministry, which is centred on Jesus.
The greatest lesson to learn from the life of Abraham is his willingness to give up his only son, Isaac. Abraham’s faith which produced patience and obedience, was built by adversity, whereby his action - which is to trust God in raising Isaac even if He kills him, is similar to Jesus’ death and resurrection (Hebrews 11:11-19; Romans 4:1-25).
The second lesson to take from the life of Abraham is the Doctrine of Salvation, which is only obtained by grace through faith in Christ Jesus (Genesis 15:5-6; Galatians 3:8). People received justification by faith when they believe in Jesus just as Abraham also believed in the resurrection of his son. At the time Abraham was declared righteous and had received the blessedness of God, he wasn't circumcised until later, and so this depicts that Salvation isn’t received by circumcision or works but by faith (Genesis 15:5-6; Genesis 17:7-14; Romans 4:8-11).
Another lesson to learn from the life of Abraham is separation unto God (Genesis 12:1-4). God asked him to leave his father’s land for a place he has prepared for him. Separation, Surrendering, and Sacrifice are the cost of following God (Genesis 13:14). A lesson of intimacy can also be learnt from the life of Abraham. You need to nurture your intimacy with God (Genesis 18:1-33).
