Matthew 5: 1-16
In every human, there is a default desire to make impact, which is not strange because one of the expressions of dominion that God gives to humanity is to make impact. As believers, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be impactful, but there is a proper way to make impact as desired.
As believers, an affiliation with the world will not impact the world. If we are going to make a Jesus-kind of impact in our world, we must do it in Jesus' way, else our salt will be worthless.
The phrase "salt" that Jesus used to describe the life of a believer at that time meant something that is very valuable.
Even in this current dispensation, salt is a seasoning used in making food palatable (Matthew.5:13). Whatever good that is in this present earth is because believers are still here, the unpalatable state of this world will be very evident once believers are taken away.
Salt in a delicacy cannot be seen, its effect will only be felt in the food and so, this infers that we do not showcase ourselves (personal ambitions) as believers even though being the light, permits the believers to flaunt in a way, and the showcasing is the person of Jesus. We, being the light of the world, means that we shine the light of Jesus. Whoever we are going to flaunt as believers, is Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:3-5; Ephesians 5:11-14; Romans 13:12-14; Philippians 2:14-15).
Darkness means ignorance of God, of human nature, of the world, and of Satan. Ignorance is falsehood and deception.
Light is truth; the more you know the truth, the more your light will shine brighter. Light exposes, and wakes out of slumber; light reveals and illuminates. Jesus reveals God, and the church reveals Christ.
